Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
